1:00pm to 4:00pm
(3.00 Hours)

Description

Course ID 111844
Have you ever been in public and witnessed a parent/child conflict? Most of us have. This course will examine some reasons why a struggle of this kind can be difficult to watch, and even more difficult to impact.

The OneKindWord approach, which was developed from some of Fred Rogers' (Mr. Rogers Neighborhood) work, examines three simple ways to intervene that both protect children, while at the same time, support parents. It also is based in brain science and trauma-responsive concepts that can help early childhood educators and others who support children and families.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to:

1. Identify the challenges of parenting and the importance of empathy.
2. Describe the reasons why people who observe parent/child conflicts in public don't step in to intervene.
3. Identify the three ways that people can safely intervene when they witness a parent/child conflict.
